In 30 years, D.C. is expected to lead the East Coast in the number of tidal floods — nearly 400 per year, according to the UCS report, titled “Encroaching Tides: How Sea Level Rise and Tidal Flooding Threaten U.S. East and Gulf Coast Communities over the Next 30 Years.”
The council will vote Tuesday on a bill that would allow doctors to prescribe medical marijuana as they see fit. All 13 councilmembers have already signaled their support for the legislation. Currently, medical marijuana can only be prescribed in the District of Columbia to people suffering from a short list of conditions.
An independent council member, Catania opposed the deal the city reached with Major League Baseball and the team’s owners to build a stadium for the Nationals. He said at a mayoral debate last month that he had never been to Nationals Park, but he said it wasn’t because of lingering bitterness about the stadium fight. The council’s public safety committee will hold a hearing Friday on the bills. Although some of the details differ, both would make it a crime punishable by up to 5 years in prison to distribute sexually explicit photos or videos taken for private use during a romantic relationship. The bills were introduced by councilmembers Muriel Bowser and Mary Cheh.
